The Contact | 1993, 3'40"

Still from "The Contact"

I made this piece during an internship at the CNBDI, as part of the Master in Image Synthesis and Computer Animation of the Balearic Islands University. For a while I thought of titling it Close encounters on the third hole. The abilities acquired at Zoom TV (now La Truka) allowed me to concentrate on the creative aspects of narrative and visual design. Building a work from the first idea up to the final postproduction, and experiencing the particularities of each phase was very valuable.

Technical details

During the animation phase I learned the versatility of texture maps to create detail on models without the need for complex geometry. The huge spaceship is a very simple model of geometric figures covered by manipulated images of LSI circuits. The helicopter is a demonstration model of ViewPoint. The Contact was made on a Silicon Graphics Personal IRIS, using TDI Explore 2.3.2.
